Anchal - Domestic Violence Shelter

This project is to design a domestic violence shelter, a place where victims can take refuge. The shelter is an environment where victims of

domestic violence feel safe and protected yet able to be themselves. The design will take advantage of the beautiful façade of the historic building on

Canal Street in Susan B. Anthony District which blends into the other buildings around the district.

The psychological state of the occupants is one of the most important aspects of this project. Warm, sanctuary, secure, and relaxed are the feelings that this shelter would convey to its occupants. Calming and soothing colors will be used in the interior with a splash of soft bright color which symbolizes the new start and hope of a life journey. Instead of defining everyone by what they are, this shelter offers everyone a comfortable place to be oneself. Domestic violence shelters plays a critical role in providing support and safety to occupants. It is the ideal environment for victims toescape and solve problems with the help of professionals. Our mission is to heal, educate and empower survivors of domestic violence.
